It may not be the first time, but it always makes us very proud to work on websites we’re familiar with or use ourselves.
So it’s been a real pleasure for us to build out a huge new web portal for the Royal Meteorological Society. RMetS, as it’s better known amongst meteorological types, is the UK’s go to weather resource, a national institution and the first port of call for Brits in search of accurate, reliable climate information.
Our challenge was to create a new digital hub promoting the many different aspects of RMetS, including their comprehensive information and event services, a secure private members area and easy access to the many papers, journals and books the society publishes every year.
Like many established web properties, the existing RMetS site had outgrown its own capacity, started to look a little dated and lacked the kind of functionality most of us expect from a website these days. But along with a contemporary new feel and easy access, the one request RMetS had was that we retain their strong branding and reputation as a great British institution.
Combining the society’s many roles – as news provider, educational resource, private membership group and event organiser – called for a high degree of customisation from our Drupal team, who pushed the system to its limits. Two of our biggest challenges involved simplifying the sign up process – to reduce drop off rates – and making it easier for RMetS staff to add new content in the form of blogs and promoted events.
The Royal Meteorological Society are really happy with the final result and we’re thrilled to add another prestigious client to the growing list of household names choosing to partner with Secret Source.
